Catching up 2010

Well, it's been too long since we last spoke and kept you up to date with the happenings of our household. We left off with Winter 2009 and it is now Fall 2010 . Our family is doing well and we are preparing for another busy Fall with some tenetive vacation plans and of course our tour of artshows. Ken will stay close to home for the artshow season in an effort to continue to draw a regional and local following. He has spent a great deal of time updating his website and getting some new pictures up. Visit when you can at www.LightToWrite.com. I think you will enjoy it!
We had a wonderful winter with several episodes of snow which KC enjoyed. We were thankful for the spring and did some traveling into TN and North Alabama. We also made a long trek to Missouri and did some trout fishing, camping and sight seeing. We had a great time and KC caught his first fish! He was the only one who caught anything! Summer has been hot and KC had the opportunity to spend some time with my parents in MS (his first time away from home for more than 24hrs) and had a wonderful time. He also participated in Vacation Bible School and always seemed to make freinds. He is outgoing and friendly and has an endless amount of energy. We are beginning the "nighttime" potty training and we are about at 50/50. 50% of the time I remember to get up and take him and 50% of the time I don't! He has had some "dry" nights and that is exciting and I have now begun set my alarm...I'm not sure who is training who! KC is growing up and will begin 4K this year and go to schoo 4 days a week. I will take the opportunity to work while he is in school but will remain only part-time. Life is good and the Lord continues to bless our home with happiness and a great deal of harmony for which we are thankful. Although this update is brief we hope to be more deligent in keeping up to date. God Bless...

Winter 2009

Well now that's almost Spring I thought I'd send some winter greetings your way. We have seen a winter of plentiful snow (now realize this is someone from the South talking) and cold temperatures. KC had enjoyed "sledding", snowball fights and making snow angels. He turned four a couple of months ago and is really getting tall. He remains happy, playful and on the go most days! He loves spiderman and batman and can often be found jumping from furniture, climbing the starirails or running from some pretend villian. He is too cute! He is also infatuated with the Cars movie and before long we'll have the entire cast!

We are looking forward to spring and are planning our artshow schedule which will consist of several local area shows. Ken is always hard at work and really has some great work for this season.

I have enjoyed teaching KC's Sunday school class this quarter and am trusting that the Lord will impart some measure of truth to them. I have never seen such a "busy" little group...How do preschool teachers keep their sanity? I have a new respect for those gifted with the art of teaching...whew!

We are planning our annual camping trips and will possibly head to Missouri for some fly fishing and float trips (if the water's not too cold for ole Jen.). Don't know where we will go for the summer or fall but possibly the beach. Each year gets a little more adventureous as KC gets older and is able to walk greater distances and walk trails that are a little tougher. He actually fares better than his ole mom! He does love to hike and just today said he wanted to be a "patograprapher, just like my dad" ("photographer" is what he tried to say). A proud moment for Ken! We got KC a kids' digital camera for Christmas and I think more than the picture taking itself, he likes seeing the image show up on the back.

Well, it's a slow news month but we are all doing well and enjoy each day. We are thankful for all God's blessings.

Fall 2009

Our family always enjoys the fall time of year. We resume the busy artshow circuit, love the change of weather as well as the chance to go camping again and take in the fall colors. One aspect of this time of year I think we miss, for several reasons, is the "Harvest". We are not farmers but are quite the opposite- urbanites. Although we give thanks for "our daily bread" we don't often think of the toil and faithfulness of those who help get it the table. There are several farms within driving distance from our home who have annual havest celebrations (pumpkin patches, corn mazes, hayrides, petting zoo, cotton pickin'...) but we had not, until last year, taken advantage of these events. If it weren't for KC we may not have ever been inclined to go! I'm so glad we did! We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed the hospitality of the host family who owned the farm as well as sharing with KC a "simpler" side to life.
Harvest time also reminds us of another harvest, a harvest of souls for enternity, that is always ready but needs laborers..."The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therfore, to send out workers into his harvest field", Matthew 9:37,38. We often forget, as believers, that we are part of the workforce of God! Daily life and responsibilites can often steal our joy of serving and pouring our life into others.
However, this serving/laboring lifestyle was so evident in the life of "Sweet Marie", Ken's grandmother and KC's
g. grandmother, who went to be with the Lord in August of this year. We had just celebrated her 100th birthday in July. The many testimonies that were given at her memorial service as well as the experiences of my own when in her presence, inspired me to want to live better and serve others in the daily walk of life. May we always be reminded of the great need around us...maybe as close as next door!
We look forward to sharing with you the events and pictures that will fill our lives over the next few months...more than anything we hope you know how much we love and appreciate all of you! Please let us know of your visit!

Thoughts from the Heart

Romans 3:21-24
"But now a righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ."
One of the many truths that catch me in this passage is the statement that Paul makes about our equality before God, "There is no difference...". We all fall short of the required perfection before a holy God...if Paul had stopped right there I would be left without hope destined for the eternal wrath of God. But, Paul surrounds this passage with two other great truths: Righteouness from God is through Faith (before) and that for those who believe, justification is freely given through Gods grace by the work of Christ (after). What does the life of one who has received such grace look like? The Bible answers this in seveal places and in many different examples. Paul writes in Romans 12: 1,2..." Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifies, holy and pleasing to God-this in your spritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will." I have to always watch for those tendencies of worldly thinking (mind) which make their way into my actions and deeds (conformed to the world). My prayer for you and me: " Lord, transform my mind...give me the mind of Christ! Help me to love the things that Christ loves and died for! The Glory of God!"
